Reg Richwine – Lexington, KY
Reginald L. Richwine has taught in public
schools for thirty-five years, the past twenty-seven with Northmont City
Schools. He served twenty-four years as Director of Bands and Music
Department Head at Northmont High School, after serving for three years as
Assistant Director. A native of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, Mr. Richwine received a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Morehead State University in 1970. He spent the next eight years as Band Director at Lee County High School in Beattyville, Kentucky. He received a Masters of Music
Education degree from Morehead State University in 1979. While at Morehead he worked as a graduate assistant to Dr. Robert Hawkins, MSU Director of Bands. Mr. Richwine is an active member of MENC and the Ohio Music Education Association, serving as the All State Band coordinator in 1992 and 1995. In 1992 he was nominated for and inducted into the American School Band Directors Association. He has been an active judge
for Ohio Music Education Association and the Central States Judges Association.
Todd Chamberlain
– Lexington, KY Todd Chamberlain is the
director of bands at Morton Middle School and Cassidy Elementary School in
the Fayette Co. Public Schools in Lexington, KY. Mr. Chamberlain is in his
21st year of teaching. A 1991 graduate of Henderson Co. HS in
Henderson, KY, he studied horn at the University of Kentucky with David
Elliott while earning a bachelor’s degree in instrumental music education in
1995. Mr. Chamberlain earned a Master’s degree in Music Education from
Southern Oregon University in 2002 as part of the American Band College.
Mr. Chamberlain has held band director positions at Harrodsburg High and
Middle Schools, Louisville Southern High School, East Jessamine High and
Middle Schools, and Henry Clay High School before coming to Morton Middle
School in 2009. His bands have earned Distinguished ratings in concert band
and marching band and the Morton Middle Band was a featured ensemble at the
University of Kentucky Middle School Band Invitational in 2012. Mr.
Chamberlain serves as the KMEA Middle School Band Assessment Manager for the
Lexington Assessment district. He is also active as a contest judge, drill
writer, and consultant for marching bands in Kentucky. Chris Komnick –
Cincinnati, OH Chris Komnick is Executive Director of the
Madison Scouts Drum & Bugle Corps.
Chris assumed
the role of Executive Director in the fall of 2008 after previously serving
on the Scouts’ board of directors. He is currently a board member of Drum
Corps International where he serves as the Vice Chairman. Before taking the
role of Executive Director, Chris was a serial entrepreneur with a primary
focus on technology startups. He was responsible for developing product and
branding strategies and has over 20 years of experience working with various
organizations, from startups to public companies. Chris has taught many MBA
classes and is a frequent guest instructor and mentor at Miami University’s
school of business. Chris is an alumnus of the Scouts having marched
mellophone in 1984, 1985 and in the 2006 Alumni Reunion Project.
He holds a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University and a master’s degree in
business administration from Miami University. Daniel Niebauer
– Erie, PA Daniel Niebauer is
an active adjudicator, educator and visual designer. He is presently a member of
the New York Federation of Contest Judges, the Ontario Drum Corps & Color Guard
Judges Association as well as the Ny-Penn Judging Association, where he
currently acts as the M & M caption chief. Dan is a level three adjudicator for
WGI & DCI as well as a visual judge for DCA, CSJA, NJA, Penn. Fed., and BOA. He
has been a guest judge for state and regional championships in Kentucky,
Oklahoma, Tennessee, New York, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, Florida and Indiana,
and Europe. He has designed, coordinated, and directed over 300 marching bands,
drum corps, and color guards during the past 38 years, earning over 350 first
place trophies and championships. Formerly a band director and teacher at
Fairview High School and McDowell High School, Dan serves as a faculty member
for the Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, specializing in jewelry and
metallry design for both undergraduate and graduate students. Dan has given
clinics all over the world for the visual captions specializing in drill design
and most recently completed the 2008 DCI Tour and Championships judging many shows
while writing the visual programs for 4 marching bands. Along with his wife,
Janice, Dan owns and operates Ralph Miller Jewelers & Gallery, J & D
Manufacturing Jewelers, Inc. and RMJ Restorations, Inc. They specialize in a
custom designed line of fine gold and platinum jewelry called "Created Uniques,"
which can be found on the internet at
www.created-uniques.com. Dan has exhibited nationally and internationally.
Many of his pieces are held in private collections throughout the world.
Brett Owens – Lexington, KY
Brett Owens has over 30 years of experience in marching music activities. He has served as Program Coordinator, Brass Arranger, Music and Brass Consultant, Visual Caption Head, Guard Technician and in management for both marching bands and drum & bugle corps. In addition Mr. Owens has served as an adjudicator at Marching Band contests throughout the central United States for the past twenty years. He is a member of the Tri-State and Central States Judges Associations.
Rob James – Lexington, KY
Rob James is Professor and Chair of the Eastern Kentucky University Department of Music. James was elected recently to serve a two-year term as president of the Kentucky Association of College Music Departments. The KACMD is a service organization created to increase the effectiveness and advance the standards and ideals of higher learning music departments in Kentucky. James served as president-elect from 2003 to 2005 and president from 2005 to 2007. He also served as secretary from 2011 to 2013. James joined EKU in 1988 He received his bachelor’s degree from Oakland University and his master’s degree from Miami University of Ohio.
