Judges:

Tim Snyder – Pewee Valley, KY

Tim is currently the Brass Caption Head for the Troopers Drum & Bugle Corps.  He has also been on the brass staff for the Madison Scouts and Carolina Crown Drum & Bugle Corps.   As a performer Tim has performed around the world and across the across the country with venerable touring acts such as The Moody Blues as well as holding principal tubist positions at the Paducah Symphony & Jackson Symphonies.  Tim marched and performed with the world class Star of Indiana Drum & Bugle Corps.  Currently active as an adjudicator with the Appalachian Adjudicators Association, Tim adjudicates across the region.  Tim lives in Louisville with his wife Robin and children Elizabeth and Andrew.

Brett Owens – Lexington, KY

Brett Owens has over 30 years of experience in marching music activities.  He has served as Program Coordinator, Brass Arranger, Music and Brass Consultant, Visual Caption Head, Guard Technician and in management for both marching bands and drum & bugle corps.  In addition Mr. Owens has served as an adjudicator at Marching Band contests throughout the central United States for the past twenty years.  He is a member of the Tri-State and Central States Judges Associations.

Chris Komnick – Cincinnati, OH

Chris Komnick is Executive Director of the Madison Scouts Drum & Bugle Corps.  Chris assumed the role of Executive Director in the fall of 2008 after previously serving on the Scouts’ board of directors. He is currently a board member of Drum Corps International where he serves as the Vice Chairman. Before taking the role of Executive Director, Chris was a serial entrepreneur with a primary focus on technology startups. He was responsible for developing product and branding strategies and has over 20 years of experience working with various organizations, from startups to public companies. Chris has taught many MBA classes and is a frequent guest instructor and mentor at Miami University’s school of business.  Chris is an alumnus of the Scouts having marched mellophone in 1984, 1985 and in the 2006 Alumni Reunion Project.  He holds a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University and a master’s degree in business administration from Miami University.

Robert Dunham – Statesboro, GA

Dr. Robert Dunham is Director of Band at Georgia Southern University.  Prior to his appointment at Georgia Southern University, Dr. Dunham served for five years as Music Department Chairman and ten years as Director of Instrumental Studies at California State University, San Bernardino. Before moving to California in 1996, Dr. Dunham held positions as Director of Bands at the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse, Northern Michigan University, Missouri Western State College, and taught instrumental music in the public schools of Wyoming and Utah.

Dr. Dunham received his DMA in instrumental conducting from the University of Missouri - Kansas City Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Professor Gary Hill. He received the MM in trumpet performance and music education from the University of Wyoming, where he studied with Robert Mayse and Carlyle Weiss, and received the BM in trumpet performance, and BME in music education from the University of Northern Colorado, where he studied with Eugene Corporon, and William Pfund. Dr. Dunham has also had additional conducting training with Elizabeth A. H. Green, Larry Rachleff, and Nurhan Arman.


Nolan Jones – Jackson, MS

Nolan Jones is an experienced music educator and adjudicator with over thirty years of experience in the marching arts. He has taught at all levels of music education from beginners through college.

Mr. Jones is a graduate of Mississippi State University. As a band director in Mississippi, he has served as president of the Central Mississippi Band Director’s Association, the I-55 Band Director’s Association and the Hernando-DeSoto Band Director’s Association. His bands have been finalists in the Mississippi State Marching Championships as well as recipients of the Mississippi Band Master’s Association Sweepstakes Award.

Mr. Jones’ marching activity experiences include participation in the Drum Corps International Championship finals as a performer, instructor and designer. He has judged high school bands, both public and private school circuits, as well as the former Drum Corps South circuit.

Mr. Jones performs professionally and in community groups as a trumpeter. He enjoys performing in church and jazz ensembles as well as symphonies, ballet orchestras and musical theater.

A native of Flowood, Mississippi, Mr. Jones currently teaches Engineering Technology and Robotics at Lexington Christian Academy in Lexington, Kentucky. He lives in Frankfort, Kentucky with his wife and their two sons.
 

Terry Thompson – Ashland, KY

Terry Thompson is retired Director of Bands at Paul G. Blazer High School.  He has served in many capacities for KMEA including District 8 instrumental chairperson and the Charirperson of the Festival Commission.
