Judges:

Dean DeKemper – Floyds Knob, IN (Visual)

Dean DeKemper is a member of the Tri-State Judges Association specializing in General Effect, Visual Performance and Color Guard.  He is a Charter and three-year performing member of the Star of Indiana Drum and Bugle Corps of Bloomington, Indiana.  He was the Visual Coordinator for Evansville Central High School, Evansville, Indiana, for 15 years and former Visual Caption Head for Academy and Ubiquity Winterguard, a consistent Tri-State Circuit for the Pageantry Arts Finalist Medalist and Winter Guard International Regional Finalist Medalist.  He has consulted with numerous high school and independent programs in Indiana and Kentucky and has adjudicated marching bands and winter guards throughout the United States.  He is a twelve-year Early Intervention Specialist and Operations Supervisor with First Steps, Indiana’s Early Childhood Development Intervention Program, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Southern Indiana.

Leslie Anderson – Lexington, KY (Music)

Les Anderson is currently Assistant Professor and Director of Field and Clinical Experiences at Asbury College in Wilmore, KY.  He is an active performer and adjudicator serving as the Associate Conductor of the Central Kentucky Concert Band.  He was formerly the Principal at M.I.A.M.I. (Magnet for the Integrated Arts through the Multiple Intelligences) at Russell Elementary School in Lexington.  Prior to that position, Les had a distinguished career as Director of Bands at Tates Creek HS and Lafayette HS where his ensembles consistently received superior ratings. 

Chris Forbes – Madison, WI (Music)

Chris Forbes has been active in music education since the 1970s.  He is a former Drum Corps International and Drum Corps Midwest judge.  Chris was the featured soprano bugle soloist with the Madison Scouts Drum & Bugle Corps from 1973-77.  For many years, his photograph was in the World Book Encyclopedia under the listing of “bugle”.  Chris has arranged and composed for many of the finest bands and drum corps including the Madison Scouts, Capital Sound and the Americanos.  Chris maintains an active performance schedule as a freelance trumpeter.  He is currently a band director with the Waunakee (WI) Public Schools.

Bryan Crisp – Independence, KY (Music)

Bryan Crisp is currently the Professor of Trumpet at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio and is a member of the Cincinnati Ballet Orchestra.  Mr. Crisp holds two undergraduate degrees from Tennessee Technological University in Music Education and Music Performance and a Master of Music degree from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM). Bryan was the former Assistant Director of Bands at Cumberland County High School in Crossville, TN and regularly gives clinics and visual and musical assistance to several bands in the tri-state area.  As a performer, Bryan can be heard on seven recordings including the latest available through Summit Records titled Classic Hymns (DCD428, 2005).  He has toured the United States extensively as a soloist and educator. As a member of Mr. Jack Daniel’s Original Silver Cornet Band and Tim Zimmerman and the King’s Brass, Bryan has performed as soloist in more than three dozen states, including appearances at the International Trumpet Guild Conference, Great American Brass Band Festival, Sacramento Jazz Jubilee, Mammoth Lakes Jazz Festival, Medford Jazz Festival, and Sun Valley Jazz Jamboree. Bryan has been a winner of the National Trumpet Competition (brass quintet division) and Tennessee Trumpet Competition (solo and duet divisions), and a recipient of the International Trumpet Guild’s 2001 Blackburn Scholarship. Mr. Crisp has performed with the Dayton Philharmonic, the Cincinnati, Nashville, Middletown, Kentucky, and Richmond Symphonies. Bryan also enjoys having an active teaching studio of advanced high school and middle school trumpet students in the Northern Kentucky area.

Joey Babay – Minneapolis, MN (Visual)

Joey Babay has been involved win the marching arts over 30 years beginning in Erie Mavericks Drum & Bugle Corps and Performing with the Madison Scouts in both the percussion and color guard sections.  He is currently an active choreographer, actor and performer in the Midwest.  Joey is a judge for the Northstar Color Guard Circuit, Minnesota Percussion Association, Tri-State and Drum Corps Associates Judges' Guilds.  He currently is on the staff of Richfield HS.

Brett Owens – Lexington, KY (Visual)

Brett Owens has over 30 years of experience in marching music activities.  He has served as Program Coordinator, Brass Arranger, Music and Brass Consultant, Visual Caption Head, Guard Technician and in management for both marching bands and drum & bugle corps.  In addition Mr. Owens has served as an adjudicator at Marching Band contests throughout the central United States for the past twenty years.  He is a member of the Tri-State and Central States Judges Associations.

Jason Koontz – Richmond, KY (Percussion)

Jason Koontz is currently the director of percussion studies at Eastern Kentucky University. He has traveled to study world music/percussion in Africa, India, Indonesia, Brazil, and performed with groups such as: Blast, Cincinnati Pops orchestra, Lexington Philharmonic, Richmond Symphony, Lexington Theater, The Art of Rice traveling theater (Indonesia), Tonus percussion trio, Resonance percussion sextet, Star of Indiana drum and Bugle Corps, Brass Theater, and the Southwind drum and bugle corps. He is currently the Vice President of the Kentucky Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society and is endorsed by Vic Firth Inc., Pearl, and Coyle Steel Drums.

Lindsay Bellamy – Lexington, KY (Color Guard)

Lindsay Bellamy is a graduate of Bryan Station High School and the University of Kentucky.  She has been active in the visual and color guard arts since the early 90s.  Lindsay has performed with indoor and outdoor color guards.  She currently the color guard designer for Bryan Station.
